Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how Quran Chat Buddy collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile app (iOS and Android) and website.
1. Information We Collect
When you use the Quran Chat Buddy mobile app or website, we may collect the following types of information:
- Precise Location (GPS coordinates): Collected when you grant permission, used for accurate prayer times and Qibla direction
- Personal Information: Your name, provided during app onboarding
- User-Generated Content: Messages you send in the AI chat feature
- Identifiers: A hashed persistent device identifier, Firebase Anonymous Authentication UID, and push notification token (FCM)
- Usage Data: Message usage counts, app interactions, feature usage, session duration, and session activity stored in Firebase Realtime Database
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, and app version
- Purchase Information: Subscription status and transaction metadata processed through RevenueCat (payment details are handled by Apple or Google; we do not receive your full payment card information)
- Preference Data: Prayer time settings and notification preferences (when you choose to provide them)
- Email Address: If you subscribe to our website mailing list
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide accurate prayer times and Qibla direction based on your location
- Power the AI chat feature and deliver personalized Islamic learning responses
- Personalize your Islamic learning experience
- Send prayer reminders and push notifications
- Send important app updates and announcements
- Manage subscriptions and in-app purchases
- Enforce usage limits and improve app functionality
- Authenticate your session and sync preferences across app launches
- Respond to support requests and feedback
- Send website mailing list updates (if subscribed)
3. Location Data Usage
We request location access to provide accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for your area. When you grant permission, we collect precise location (GPS coordinates). Location data is used to calculate prayer times and compass direction. Location may be processed on your device and sent to prayer-time calculation services as needed to provide these features. We do not use your location for advertising. You can disable location access in your device settings at any time, though this may affect prayer time accuracy and Qibla functionality.
4. Identifiers and Device Data
To operate the app reliably across sessions, we collect and store the following identifiers:
- Device Identifier Hash: A persistent hashed device ID generated on your device to recognize returning users and enforce usage limits
- Firebase Anonymous UID: A persistent identifier assigned through Firebase Authentication to manage your app session
- Push Notification Token: A device token stored in Firebase to deliver prayer reminders and app notifications
- Message Usage Count: Stored in Firebase Realtime Database under a device-specific path to track feature usage
These identifiers are not sold to third parties. They are used solely to provide and improve app functionality.
5. AI Chat and User-Generated Content
The AI chat feature allows you to ask questions about Islam and the Quran. When you send a message, your chat content is transmitted from your device to our Firebase Cloud Functions, which forward it to OpenAI to generate a response. Chat messages are processed in real time to provide the service. We do not use your chat messages for advertising. OpenAI processes your messages as a data processor on our behalf. Please do not share sensitive personal information in chat messages.
6. Subscription and Purchase Data
Quran Chat Buddy offers auto-renewable subscriptions managed through RevenueCat. When you purchase a subscription, RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription status data from Apple (iOS) or Google Play (Android) to verify your subscription and unlock premium features. We do not receive or store your payment card number or bank account details. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
7. Third-Party Data Processors
We share certain data with the following service providers who process it on our behalf:
- OpenAI — processes your chat messages to generate AI responses. Privacy Policy: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
- RevenueCat — processes subscription and purchase data to manage in-app subscriptions. Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
- Google Firebase — provides anonymous authentication, Realtime Database (usage counts, notification tokens), Cloud Functions (routing chat requests), cloud messaging (push notifications), analytics, and crash reporting. Privacy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Prayer Time APIs — may receive location coordinates to calculate accurate prayer times
- Social Media Platforms — for sharing Islamic content when you choose to use in-app share features (iOS and Android)
- Apple App Store / Google Play — process subscription payments; we receive only purchase confirmation metadata via RevenueCat
These providers have their own privacy policies governing how they handle your information. We require them to process data only as needed to provide their services to us.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data only as long as necessary to provide the app and comply with legal obligations:
- Chat messages: Processed in real time to generate responses; not stored on our servers after the session ends
- Device identifier hash and Firebase UID: Retained while the app is installed; deleted upon a verified data deletion request
- Push notification token: Retained until you disable notifications or uninstall the app
- Message usage count: Retained for the lifetime of the device identifier to enforce usage limits
- Location data: Used in real time for prayer times and Qibla; not stored persistently on our servers
- Name (onboarding): Retained until you request deletion or uninstall the app
- Purchase and subscription data: Retained per RevenueCat and platform (Apple/Google) policies for the duration of your subscription and any legally required retention period
- Email (website mailing list): Retained until you unsubscribe
9. Data Safety Summary
This summary aligns with our Google Play Data Safety declaration and describes data practices for the mobile app:

10. Email Subscriptions (Website)
If you subscribe to our mailing list on quranchatbuddy.com, we will use your email address to send you:
- App updates and new feature announcements
- Islamic educational content and daily insights
- Important service notifications
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in our emails.
11. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard protocols (HTTPS/TLS). However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
12. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access and review your personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your personal information (name, usage count, push token, Firebase UID, and associated server-side data) by emailing admin@quranchatbuddy.com or using our data deletion page at https://quranchatbuddy.com/data-deletion
- Opt out of marketing communications and website email subscriptions
- Control location data sharing through your device settings
- Disable push notifications through your device or app settings
- Uninstall the app to remove locally stored data; server-side data will be deleted upon request
